XR Wing Range Features and Description

The development of the XR series of wings has seen significant improvements in stability and performance. Handling in turbulence and improved tracking allows a much more comfortable and pleasant experience when flying in turbulence.

The XR wing range when combined with the Mk4 base has an increase in MTOW to 472.5kg. The wing life limits have also been increased by 50%.

XRS Wing

The XRS wing is a double surface, high-performance strutted wing with the broadest speed range of all wings. Stall speed is relatively low with the stall being very mild and predictable.

Increased tip area combined with carbon struts attached to the leading-edges forces washout to the extreme tip.

Increased undersurface at the tip with improved blow down control results in more constant undersurface tension at all angles of attack. Combined with the winglets the result is a very stable wing with dampened roll and exceptional tracking especially in turbulent conditions.

Additional alloy hinge batten fittings have been added for extra security. The keel is shorter to improve prop clearance and the front leading edges are shorter to improve outboard flex and also results in shorter shipping length.

The strutted XRS has no kingpost allowing it to be hangered where clearance is lower.

The XRS main sail is standard with mylar cloth. Winglets and trimmer are standard.

XRK Wing

The XRK wing is a double surface intermediate wire braced wing.

The XRK wing features all of the improvements made to the XRS wing with increased undersurface at the tip, carbon tip struts and winglets. Additional outboard hinge battens, shorter keel and shorter leading-edge fronts are also part of design improvements on the XRK wing.

The XRK is a very stable wing with dampened roll and exceptional tracking especially in turbulent conditions.

The XRK has a kingpost which results in lower wing weight than the XRS models.

The XRK main sail is standard with dacron cloth and very similar construction to the XRS sail. A mylar main sail option is available. Winglets and trimmer are standard.

XRM Wing

The XRM wing is a single surface wire braced wing. It has the shortest take-off and landing distance of the XR range. The XRM maintains good cross-country flying ability, as the top end speeds are still very respectable. Stall is very mild and the lowest stall speed of the XR range.

The XRM is based on the popular Merlin wing with decrease span, increase tip and undersurface and carbon tip struts. Additional faired down tubes and king post, outboard hinge battens, shorter keel and shorter leading-edge fronts are also part of design improvements on the XRM wing.

The sail is primarily dacron. A mylar main sail option is available and winglets are optional.
